Hi. I’m Nathan. I don’t talk about myself a whole lot but I’m the person who writes and illustrates Blank Verse and the entirety of Super Sad Squad’s material. I’m a 30-something year old male. I’m happily married to a wonderful woman named Stephanie for over ten years now. I am also asexual.

“Wait. Hold up. If you don’t experience sexual attraction then why do you write and draw characters that seem to all have it going on in the traditional sense?”

I don’t talk about myself a whole lot when it comes to Super Sad Squad related stuff because ideally I would like to disappear while others appreciated and engaged with the work and not myself. I most often use “we” when speaking from the project’s perspective to hide my identity and create the illusion that it’s a larger team that makes the material. But for how little I want to talk about myself when it comes to the project one thing is undeniable - this entire project is completely selfish. I have used Blank Verse to explore avenues I can’t in real life, and sexuality is a huge part of that. There are very few characters in Blank Verse that are strictly straight. Sam and Jesse are gay, Steven and Ford are bisexual, Billie is pansexual, Logan is asexual and Alex is demisexual. Not all of these are experiences that I’ve had myself, but I am exploring them through this project. Blank Verse is not a completed story and is written as I go based on things I experience.

“Yeah, cool. But that still doesn’t explain why they’re all hot.”

I don’t experience sexual attraction in the same way that most people do, but all because I don’t look at someone and think “Oh, what I wouldn’t give…” doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate things that are aesthetically beautiful - and the human body definitely is beautiful. I wear on my sleeve the things that I find cute because you see it in the characters I draw. But make no mistake - my drawings are not a blueprint for what I want to stick my wiener in; they are simply things that I find cute.

That’s why everyone has cute butts; because I think butts are cute. Case closed.
